CAMTA Middle School Math Contest

Congratulations to our team of middle school students that competed 5/10 in the Chattanooga State Middle School contest. Our 9 participants are Jackson Swiney, Andy Vernetti, Cameron Youngblood, Matthew Lamsey, Lydia Dubois, Shehan McFadden, Taylor Lapinski, Davis Brock, and Morgan Lakey.  SMMHS had the most winners of all participating schools with Jackson Swiney placing 1st overall in 6th grade, Cameron Youngblood placing 3rd overall in 6th grade and Matthew Lamsey placing 1st overall in 7th grade.Sample Image

 
Essay Winner!

Congratulations to Keely Dunavin, pictured here with Chief Larry Sneed of the Red Bank Police Department.  The chief visited Keely to award her a check for winning second place in the TN Law Enforcement Essay contest.  Nice job, Keely!

Success at TSA Nationals!

June 28 through July 2, 2010 ten students from Signal Mountain Middle School attended the 2010 National TSA Conference in Baltimore, Maryland. Schools from all over the nation and even a school from Germany competed at the conference.   The students competed in a wide variety of events from Communication Challenge and Environmental Focus to Technical Drawing and Electrical Applications.  The students placed in the top ten in the nation in 9 of the competitive events.

In Career Prep, Bethany Burns placed 7th in the nation.  In Communication Challenge, Bethany Burns also placed 7th in the nation.  In Environmental Focus, Davis Brock and Kylila Tucker placed 3rd in the nation.  In Go Green Manufacturing, Bethany Burns, Parker Miller, and Stephanie Peterson placed 2nd in the nation.  In Leadership Strategies, Jimmy Billings, Kylila Tucker, and Martha-Anne Turner placed 1st in the nation. In Marine Design Challenge, Jimmy Billings, Micajah Tucker, and Ryan Stevens placed 6th in the nation.  In Multimedia Challenge, Bethany Burns placed 1st in the nation.  In Prepared Speech, Bethany Burns placed 7th in the nation.  In the Written Test for Technology Bowl Challenge, Davis Brock placed 5th in the nation.   Kylila Tucker was also inducted into the TSA National Honor Society.  The chapter also received The Chapter of Excellence award, which the members had to demonstrate their leadership skills. Their advisor, Steve Seymour won the Advisor of the Year award.  The students enjoyed a wonderful experience in fabulous city while competing well in the competition.  By: Hannah Peterson

 
Outstanding Achievement!

Signal Mountain Middle School seventh grade student Eilish Flannery, daughter of Mr. Greg Flannery and Helen Brell was recently selected for the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Southern Division’s Children’s Honor Choir.  Miss Flannery competed against more than 700 students from ten southern states and was one of six students who represented Tennessee in the honor choir.

Not only congratulations, but sincere thanks to all of our seniors.  Each of you took a chance by transferring to a brand new school, and in doing so you have helped us build a culture of caring about educational success.  We appreciate the trust you placed in us, and in turn we trust that each of you will be successful in your chosen path.

Congratulations to Mrs. Ludwig & Mrs. Thomas!

Joy Ludwig has been accepted in the 2010 National Consortium for teaching about Asia at UTC.  Carole Thomas has been named a recipient of the 2010 Margot Stern Strom Teaching Award, and has been awarded a grant of $500 from the Facing History and Ourselves organization for her unit on "Survivorship".
